Louisiana EPSDT Services Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic & Treatment

EPSDT is a free preventive health care program for children and youth under age 21 who are enrolled in Louisiana Medicaid. It helps ensure young people get the medical, dental, vision, hearing, and behavioral health services they need-early and regularly.

Who is Eligible?

• Children and youth birth through age 20

• Must be enrolled in Louisiana Medicaid or LaCHIP

What Does EPSDT Cover?

EPSDT includes four key components:

Screening Services

• Well-child checkups

• Developmental and behavioral screenings

• Immunizations

• Vision, dental, and hearing checks

Diagnostic Services

• Testing to follow up on potential problems found during screenings

Treatment Services

• Any medically necessary care to correct or improve conditions, even if not normally covered by Medicaid

Periodic Visits

• On a regular schedule based on the child's age

• Additional visits when medically necessary

Special Services Available

EPST also helps with:

• Transportation to medical appointments

• Case management

• In-home nursing or therapies

• Durable medical equipment and supplies

• Personal Care Attendant Services (PCA)
